Impress your Valentine with the perfect date!
Are you dating a sci-fi fan, jock, socialite, outdoorsy type, skater boy, gym junkie, or travel addict? Once you’ve nailed your man’s personality type, the only question remaining is whether you’re ready to rock his socks and score some serious brownie points! Everyone knows how to book dinner and a movie, or pick up a bunch of roses. Why not take the reigns this Valentine’s Day and book your man a date he can’t resist, tailored to his personality. And if there’s no man on the scene why not spoil your sister, mum, best girlfriend, or another special person in your life with one of these fun mini adventures? Valentine’s Day is for celebrating all kind of love, after all.Of course, every date on a BUF Girl’s list is at least a little bit active ;)Here are our date ideas for every kind of partner in crime…
The Outdoorsy Type
Canyoning – one of our favourite spots is in the Blue Mountains with highandwild.com.au, or a well planned hike, followed by a well stocked picnic on a big rug, under an open sky. Check out wildwalks.com for ideas.
The Jock
Tickets to a sporting event, a gourmet barbecue and backyard game with your favourite people, or grab a sports themed board game from boardgamegeek.com and play loudly, with your best Aussie accent and heckling skills firmly in place!
The Geeky Sci-Fi Fan
Laser tag or a city ghost tour never fail – just ask Mr Google for the closest to you. OR go next level, download the Zombies Run app to both your phones – check it out at zombiesrungame.com - and go on a run-venture that will make you both laugh, work up a sweat and maybe even scream in public ;)
The Socialite
Gather your favourite couples for a huge afternoon of board games in the park – active style! Every roll of the dice comes with a certain number of reps of your exercise of choice… roll a six, drop for 6 push-ups, roll a 2, rep out a couple of burpees, draw an ace and it’s 20 seconds of high knees for you! The reps might sound small, but over a few hours they’ll add up – and you’ll have a good giggle too! Your choice whether you celebrate the end of the game with a cheeky glass of bubbles ;)
The Gym Junkie
Write him a special, kick-ass Valentine’s Day gym session – if you’re not sure where to start try grabbing one from the “Training” tab at mensfitness.com. Then hit up a healthy café for brekky and walk it off with a chilled stroll. Oh and make sure you surprise him with a slogan tank from muscleclubapparel.com.
The Skater Boy
Hit up skatespots.com.au and find an epic new skate park to visit, then surprise him with a day trip and a well-packed backpack of snacks, books and a rug to chill on in the shade between ramp attempts. Want to go next level? Do a bit of secret practicing before the trip so you can join in, or maybe even beat him at his own game ;)
The Surfer
For a surfer, there is no other option – get out of bed with him at dawn and hit the waves. If you’re not a surfer, bring a book and chill on the sand while he rips it up, or if you’re after serious brownie points, take your camera and get him a few mid-wave snaps. Follow up with a huge breakfast feast and a cheeky midday sleep, then surprise him with a surf flick he hasn’t seen – either at the cinema or grab one for free from surfmovies.org to chill with on the couch. Make sure you get an early night so he can get up at dawn again the next day!
The Adrenaline Junkie
OK you have multiple options here; anything that raises the blood pressure will do nicely. From white water rafting to paddle boarding on the open sea, rock climbing or abseiling, a cross-country bike tour, water skiing or wakeboarding, snorkeling or diving, even hitting up a water park should do the trick! Make sure you steel your nerves for the ride because there’s no option, you have to be involved too! Start your thrill seeking at adrenaline.com.au.
The Rocky Wannabe
Book a boxing class you can do together and start your day with a stress-busting session on the pads. Or go one step further and find an instructor that can teach you a little weaponry. If you’re Sydney based, we love acemartialarts.com.au.
The Escape Artist
If all your partner talks about is holidays, day trips, weekends away and escaping the rat race, well, you know what to do ;) Book a weekender, tell him to pack an overnight bag and surprise him with a cheeky mini break for two. Hit up traveller.com.au and get planning!
The Big Kid
OK this one’s easy; Skyzone for a bouncy trampoline dream, Timezone for endless video games, or tickets to any theme park that tickles your fancy and will make you both smile. Bonus: you’ll totally rack up a bunch of steps cruising around from ride to ride all day!
