The Busy BUF Girl’s Workout Guide
Exercise gives you way more than a perky butt and toned abs – it reduces stress, eases tension, sharpens your memory and focus, helps you sleep better and much, much more. So, why is it the first thing we drop when things get busy? It’s on those weeks when you have early meetings, late dinners, exams to study for and kids to pick up, plus a stack of deadlines to meet that continuing your regular workouts is most important.
Here’s why
- Exercise will ensure you have more energy throughout the day, and sleep better at night. That means taking an hour out to do your fave BUF class will actually make you more productive throughout your day!
- Regular exercise is a powerful pick-me-up that can significantly reduce that mid-afternoon slump and make you feel much more energetic – so ditching that second coffee for a lunch time circuit is a good idea.
- Moving your body will give you a sharper memory, help you concentrate and stimulate the growth of new brain cells. This is all essential stuff for those exams you are giving up exercise to study for. We say: a smart studier moves to improve!
- Getting those endorphins flowing will lift your mood and have you feeling more relaxed and positive. Need I say more?
- Exercise increases self-esteem. And when your self-esteem is soaring you can take on anything!
Still not convinced you can find the time? Try changing your approach
- Make exercise a social activity. Exercising with your BUF girls is guaranteed to be fun and will take your mind off whatever is currently stressing you. You might even find that your fellow BUF girls have some great advice for the issue you are struggling with.
- Make exercise the reward for all of the hard work you are doing. With all the benefits exercise brings, it is the best reward you can give yourself. Rather than sitting on the couch and watching TV for an hour as your ‘timeout’ pull on those runners and get outdoors.
- Don’t let the cold weather become an excuse. It is actually much nicer to be cooler rather than warmer once you get in to your session, we promise! And that morning circuit might be the only time you get to see the great outdoors on those chilly mid-winter days stuck in the office. Dress in layers that you can remove as you start to sweat.
- Make a list of non-negotiables. Sure, you would love to make it to every class but we all know that that isn’t always possible. Choose your favourite classes and make these non-negotiable, just like those Uni classes or meetings you HAVE to attend – book your fave classes in to your calendar and move mountains to get there!
- Take a super early 5.45am class and smash in to the office with all of those endorphins running through your bod – they won’t know what’s hit um’!
- If 5.45am is still not going to work for that relentless schedule of yours, book some one on one sessions with one of our amazing Personal Trainers and create a schedule that works for you.
At the end of the day, remember these things
Consistency is key. Remain committed and you won’t feel guilty if you miss just one session due to an urgent project / assignment. You don’t have to train like a pro athlete every time. Sometimes when you envision going to a workout where you have to go hard or be the best, you just don’t feel like it. On these occasions, take it a little easier, listen to your body and think about it more as getting out there in the fresh air with your mates and just having a bit of fun. We’ll bring the Hollywood, Superhero and other themed circuit concepts to help you out ;)As well as exercise, good nutrition also plays a huge role in your mood, productivity and stress levels. Make sure you are eating good mood food – lots of veggies and fruit, healthy fats, good quality protein and a little darky choccy never hurts ;)Work on it while you are working on it. Essential oils can have amazing benefits for the way you feel and in turn the way you work (and workout for that matter). Check out the best oils to get busy with.
