The only body part you can get in shape with no exercise at all

“I woke up like this. No really, I DID wake up like this!” - I'm not quoting Queen Bey here, but BUF Founder Libby Babet the day after I successfully convinced her to be our beauty Guinea pig and get a new set of freshly feathered eyebrows!fullsizerender-2My name's Lacey and I'm the new resident beauty expert here. My first mission when I joined the team was to get Libby a brow overhaul! You see Lib has always had rather, hmm, shall we say ‘90s style' eyebrows (meaning there isn't a whole lot left!), so I enlisted one of Australia's all-time shaping gurus, who also happens to be the legend behind Miranda Kerr’s lush brows, Talina Johnson of My Rejuvenate to get the job done.Seeing as Lib is over-the-moon with her new look and a lot of you have been asking her how she finally got her brows as in-shape as her legs (hehe), we thought we’d do a little Q&A with Talina so you could get the lowdown in case you too have been considering a “browtervention!”Oh and of course, check out Lib’s new pair of super fancy brows below and lots of other cool transformations on Talina's instagram page.brows-before-after-1

Q&A with Talina of @myrejuven8

Getting a tattoo on your face isn't something to take lightly, so as a first timer of any type of tattoo I must ask the obvious questions first… does it hurt!? How long does it take from start to finish? How permanent are they? And what if I don't like them?TIME: Start to finish time including the numbing, a thorough consult and skin assessment, custom colour blending, design, shape, measure and feather is around 2 hours. But you’ll save that over and over again when you no longer have to fill in your own brows every day!PAIN: Minimal (if any) pain can be expected, although every person’s sensitivity levels are different; I am very sensitive to my clients comfort, so I take care in re-applying anaesthetic during the treatment. It’s not uncommon for my clients to fall asleep during the treatment.THE LOOK: Everything is first measured, shaped and drawn on, so you can approve the look before I move forward with any tattooing; the pigment colours are tested against your skin, chosen by you and custom blended for you, so there is very little room for error. I've actually never had a client not love their brows, not once, because everything is done with their total approval.LASTING POWER: Semi-permanent. The pigment is designed to gradually fade out over time, but every client is different as to how long this may take; I usually recommend a yearly 'colour boost' to keep them looking fresh and amazing! As a guide, you can expect your new brows to last anywhere from 6 to 36 months; certain lifestyle factors contribute to fading, as do skin types.Walk me through Libby's consult… what did you take into consideration when sculpting her new brows? Most importantly, Lib’s facial features! We aim to attract attention to eyes and cheekbones, while ensuring the brows work in a synergistic flow with all other features of the face. For example, a soft and low arch is recommended for oval shaped faces (such as Libby has), high arches can really open up the eyes of a round face (not Libby), or by taking the brows up just one row we can give the appearance of a brow-lift for a low forehead (also not Libby). These processes come very naturally, and always work for every client. There are a few methods of tattooing, such as feathering, powder coating, or a combination of the two. How do you know which method is right for your brows and how does the finished result differ? When taking into consideration which technique is most suitable, I look at the strength of a client’s features, also most importantly I listen to what the client tells me. There are certain factors we discuss that help me to determine which technique to advise as most suitable.Feathering heals in an ultra soft look and is perfect for clients who don't wear much makeup, have soft features, or with fair colouring. This is the option we went for with Libby, as she likes to have a clean face and doesn’t wear a lot of eye makeup.Powder brows are mostly advised for clients with strong features, thicker skin, darker colouring, or those who prefer more definition.Either technique will look beautiful once healed, you just need to think about what you want to achieve.Anastasia brows (a combination of the above two techniques) are most suitable for clients with super sparse or fine eyebrows who want the feathered look, but require some added shading to help the existing hair blend and look more natural. My aim is to create natural looking brows that look lovely from first thing in the morning, before you put on any other make-up on. This is what makes semi-permanent brows perfect for sporty girls!Semi-permanent makeup is not a solution to 'glamour' make-up; I advise my clients they will still need to wear brow powder/pencil/pomade if they want to doll up for a night out.How much will semi-permanent brows set you back and how long do you have to wait for them to heal completely? The full treatment, including a touch-up at the 4-week mark and a final review is $600-$650. The review is to ensure we are both happy with the final healed result, and at the time you will receive a complimentary brow sculpting treatment.Healing time varies between 4-10 days depending on your individual constitution, and which technique you go ahead with.Feathering looks good straight away and yields minimal down-time however requires diligent after-care for at least 5 days. Due to the delicate application of the feathered strokes this technique is not as long-lasting and you can expect it to last 7-24 months.Powder brows look very dramatic at first, some scabbing can be expected around day 4 to 7, then they’ll heal to a more defined yet still natural looking 'powder effect'; results are longer lasting and worth the down-time!Now probably the most important question for all us BUF girls! How long do I have to wait to start training after my treatment? You can train as soon as you like, however to assist with healing it's important to take special care with keeping the area clean, and keep up with regular application of an aftercare balm (which I’ll provide) for 5 days following your treatment. You will also need to avoid sweating and wiping at the area until they've completely healed. For this reason, you might want to avoid high intensity training, or sweaty gym class environments for a few days. A good excuse to go for a walk in the fresh air!Keen for more eye candy? Check out the healed result 4 weeks later!fullsizerender
