What Your Trainer Likes To Treat On!
Imagine a world without chocolate, ice-cream, pancakes or the occasional afternoon-pick-me-up. You there yet? Me too...
BORRRRRING!!
Although trainers are generally a bit of a ‘different’ breed – yes, we’re obsessed with our training and clean eating but hey, who wouldn’t be when faced with running around in tight lycra or short-shorts six days out of every seven – there’s still no way we are missing out on our treats!
Whether you’re looking for healthier alternatives to your usual afternoon sugar binge, or are just trying to get an insight into what the hell goes on inside your trainer’s brain, here’s a list of "Naughty But Nice" treats we like to get our grubby little mits on:
Banana Blueberry “Ice-Cream”
Simply mash up a banana (ripe sugar bananas are best!), swirl in some blueberries and even a little shaved coconut and let it set in the freezer. Voila! You can also make this treat by pre-freezing all your fruit and lightly blending into an ice-creamy consistency whenever the urge hits.
Chocolate “Brownie”
This is made by mixing a couple of handfuls of crushed nuts (any nuts will do, I like almonds and walnuts), some diced-and-pitted dates, a small handful of desiccated coconut, a teaspoon of raw organic honey, 1-2 teaspoons of organic nut butter and some raw cacao (approx. 4 tbls if you like it as chocolatey as I do), plus a dash of water. Once you’ve mixed it all together into a cookie dough texture, press it onto a baking pan and let it warm up in the oven. You could serve this with some Banana Blueberry Ice-Cream, a little organic cream, even coconut yoghurt, yummo!
Choc Hazelnut Smoothie
Throw all of this into your blender: 1 tablespoon raw cacao, a teaspoon of chia seeds, ¼ avocado, 200-300ml hazelnut milk.
Hazelnut and Banana Pancakes
Mix 1/3 cup of hazelnut meal (you can do this yourself by putting a handful of hazelnuts into your food processor), half a mashed banana, a pinch of celtic sea salt, 2- 3 organic eggs, a dash of hazelnut milk. Use coconut oil (for frying) and away you go. Sprinkle some cinnamon on top for delicious spiciness (and as an added bonus, this helps to balance your blood sugar levels too)
Afternoon Massacre
One big tablespoon of organic nut butter (I like almond, or even macadamia) and sprinkle goji berries on top! This is amazing! One of my favourites! It’s like little red ants drowning in quicksand... that taste really delicious.
Vanilla Almond Eyeball
Mix crushed almonds and macadamias, processed goji berries (throw a handful in your processor so they come out all mashed and sticky, don’t overdo it though), a couple of tablespoons raw maca powder, a drop or two of vanilla essence (optional), a teaspoon of raw organic honey and a dash of almond milk. Roll them through some extra crushed nuts or eat ‘em just as they are - little balls of goodness. If you’re as childlike as me, pop a goji berry on top for the ‘eyeball’ effect.
The Brain Freeze Section
Noticed yet how things taste SO much better after a night in the freezer? Try these frozen treats on for size…
- Banana rolled in coconut flakes
- Banana rolled in almond flakes and cinnamon (or milo for an old-school treat!)
- Mashed mango (it becomes mango icecream! I like it topped with coconut yoghurt)
- Red Grapes
So there you have it!! I hope these healthy little treats make your day a happy and healthy one.
Enjoy being NAUGHTY... but also very nice to your bod.
