Gym to Brunch: Our Essentials
Ladies, the health revolution is upon us and we need to make sure we’re prepared! With 3-day yoga retreats replacing 3-day benders, green salads being undercut by even-greener juices and the gym-to-brunch trend replacing the old sleep-to-brunch tradition on your Sunday, well, let’s just say a girl’s got to be ready to slip from treadmill to café stool in the blink of an eye!But what do you need stashed in your handbag to be ready for such a swift getaway and still look acceptable to be out in public? The four of us are so different that we couldn’t agree on just a few must-have items, so today we give you… the top essentials we each keep stashed in our handbags when scooting from a sweaty gym session to a luxe latte (erm, we mean piccolo) date with the girls.

“I keep it simple. The girls love me as I am and I really don’t feel the need to dress up for them… or my boy for that matter! I just want to feel a little bit fresher and y’know, generally non-smelly by the time I hit the cafe.”
- The Body Shop Tea Tree Oil Wipes – for a quick once-over, face and body
- Mukti Tinted Moisturiser with Sunscreen – my one-stop post-gym face product
- Fresh Singlet – The brighter the colour, the better!
- Havaianas – I can’t wait to get out of my sports shoes after a workout, so I never ever leave the house without a pair of flip-flops stashed in my handbag – and Havaianas are my go-to. As soon as I walk out of the gym, I whip them out and let my feet breathe!

“I’m BUF’s Red Carpet Ready trainer, so of course my handbag has a few luxe products to make me feel just a little bit glam by the time I’m sitting down to brunch!”
- Jane Iredale Glow Time Mineral BB Cream – this gives the best dewy coverage for post-gym, while letting your skin breathe. It’s my all-time favourite product!
- Lanolips 101 Ointment in “The Original” – so much time working outside means my lips are almost always dry, and this is the only lip balm that really works for me – I literally always have it in my handbag! The bonus is it also makes your lips really soft and shiny, for a hint of glam.
- Fresh Crop & Singlet – I’m the face of PUMA so I’m lucky enough to have so many fun crops and singlets from the brand. I always carry one of each with me to freshen up after a session.
- State Of Escape bag – OK technically this isn’t actually IN my handbag but I’m obsessed with this brand – the bags are big enough to stash all my gym gear in, but are the best accessory and help transform any outfit in an instant!

“I love fashion and will always bring a change of clothes with me, but am fairly practical when it comes to makeup, so my essentials are all about making me feel fresh.”
- Dove Original Deodorant – I’m a deodorant junkie, but I don’t like products with a lot of fragrance, so this goes with me everywhere.
- Batiste Dry Shampoo – there’s nothing worse than sweaty hair for me, so I use dry shampoo post-gym to get a bit of volume back. Current stash is Batiste in Neon Lights.
- Jane Iredale PurePressed Base in Latte – if I could only take one beauty item with me to a deserted island, it would probably be this mineral makeup. I never use any other foundation! It’s quick, easy to apply, your skin can breathe and it’s the perfect post-workout makeover trick. The bonus is it’s also SPF20, so it has me covered for the beach too.
- Jane Iredale Purelash Mascara – my eyes are my thing, so mascara is a must for a brunch date!
Libby
“I am fanatical about looking after my skin (blame it on years of spots and rosacea in my early 20s), so it’s straight in to the ocean at Bondi for a ‘shower’ in the waves, then high quality skincare to calm things down.”
- Simple Face Wipes – These go with me everywhere and I use them after I workout, swim or surf. They remove makeup, sweat and salt from my skin without causing irritation.
- Aspect Dr Redless Serum – This is the most expensive and also the most important skin product I own and it goes with me everywhere! I’ve suffered from rosacea and dodgy skin in the past and this calms everything down and helps keep my skin clear. I love it and always apply it post-workout or swim.
- Dermaquest Breathable Mineral Coverage in 4N – I switch between using this mineral base, or Jane Iredale in Latte. They are the two best I’ve found by far and the ultimate gym-to-brunch recovery makeup. Perfect to nix redness or cover pigmentation.
- S’well Water Bottle in Bikini Pink – I’m 100% for proper hydration and 100% against BPA in plastic bottles, so I carry this BPA-free bottle everywhere, particularly to my workouts as it keeps liquids cool for about 24 hours.
We hope this helps you put a little prep in your step ;)
